Assam: Three officers arrested in APSC exam scam

Three Assam Civil Service (ACS) officers have been arrested in connection with the cash-for-jobs scam.

The arrested officers were identified as Helem Bhaskar Jyoti Devasarma, Bhaskar Dutta and Amit Sarma.

The Dibrugarh Police arrested them after their answer sheets of the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) examination were seized from the residence of Rakesh Paul.

Paul is the former chairman of the commission who is believed to be the kingpin of the scam and is currently in jail.

The accused are being interrogated in Kahilipara.

According to the police, two sets of answer sheets of each of the three ACS officers were recovered from Paul's residence and the office of the APSC.

Subsequent forensic tests confirmed duplicity.

"The three were selected based on the duplicate assessment. There could be some other such persons involved and we will nab them all," Assam's Director General of Police (DGP) Mukesh Sahay said.

Last year, the Dibrugarh Police had arrested an assistant engineer, Nabakanta Patir, after he was caught red-handed accepting bribes of Rs. 10 lakh from a lady dentist.

He had approached her promising a government job through the APSC and demanded the money.

But she tipped off the police leading to his arrest.
