At least 33 people were killed and dozens injured after a bus collided head-on with a truck in northwest Bangladesh.
According to the Daily Star, the accident occurred around 3:30pm at Rijur Intersection on Bonpara-Hatikumrul highway when a Rajshahi-bound Keya Paribahan bus from Dhaka overtook a truck and rammed a Gurudaspur-bound local bus of Othoi Paribahan coming from the opposite direction, witnesses said.
The drivers of both the vehicles were also killed in the accident.
Following the accident, a three member committee headed by Additional District Magistrate Mohammad Ali of Natore has been set up to investigate into the actual cause of the mishap.
The committee is due to submit its report in three days.
The Bangladesh government has announced a decision to bear treatment expenses of the injured and provide 1 lakh taka compensation for each of the bereaved families, the report said.
