American rapper and actor Awkwafina, who did commendable jobs in movies like 'Ocean's 8' and 'Crazy Rich Asians' is now all set to star in the sequel to 'Jumanji'.

Variety reported that the rapper and actor will be joining the star-studded cast of Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan who are all expected to return for the upcoming film.

Jake Kasdan, who had directed the first part of the film, will be helming the sequel as well.

The 2017 release, 'Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle' was a big hit, minting USD 962 million worldwide. The story revolved around a group of four teens transported into the world of Jumanji, where they transform into their adult avatars. A remake of the 1995 Robin Williams starrer Jumanji, the newer version saw a video game replacing the board game, that the original book focused on.

The script for the sequel is being penned by Kasdan, Scott Rosenberg, and Jeff Pinkner. Matt Tolmach is producing the movie along with Johnson's Seven Bucks banner and Kasdan.

Awkwafina's 'Ocean's 8' grossed more than USD 140 million and 'Crazy Rich Asians' earned USD 174 million at the domestic box office.

She will next be seen in two Sundance movies, 'The Farewell' and 'Paradise Hills'. She is also working on an autobiographical TV series called 'Awkwafina' for Comedy Central.
