Minister of State for Urban Development Babul Supriyo on Thursday alleged that the TMC workers had captured around 30 to 40 percent of the polling booths in West Bengal.

"Even the Election Commission is baffled by this incident. The TMC has turned more violent after the Election Commission had issued a showcause to Mamata Banerjee," Supriyo told ANI.

"Whatever the ECI is doing is not enough, the polling at 30-40 percent of the places is not free and fair as they are captured by the TMC," he added.

The singer-turned politician was heckled by the TMC workers at a polling booth in Kolkata's Jorasanko during the third phase polling of the West Bengal Assembly elections.

The TMC workers alleged that Supriyo entered the poll booth with a large group of people. The minister was also seen being involved in a verbal spat with a police officer deployed on duty.

The third phase of polling in West Bengal on Thursday witnessed 67.80 percent electorates casting their votes till 3 p.m.

A voter turnout of 57.21 percent was recorded till 1 p.m. and 18.29 percent till 11 p.m. The turnout in Murshidabad was 58 percent, Nadia 60 percent, Burdwan 58.74 percent and Kolkata 44 percent in first six hours of voting.

Voting for 62 assembly constituencies in West Bengal is underway.
