Queens Park Rangers midfielder Joey Barton has said that he thinks that the most people he has given a smack to during his career have deserved it, while admitting that fighting alcohol was a constant battle for him.
According to the Daily Star, Barton regretted the assault in 2008 that saw him jailed for six months, along with the heartache that it caused.
Earlier, the midfielder dismissed speculation about joining Everton and said that he would prefer return to French club Marseille.
Meanwhile, Everton have denied interest in the player and said that they would not be rushing to make a bid for him this summer.
