England's new head coach Trevor Bayliss believes that his side are moving in the 'right direction' after claiming an emphatic victory over Australia in the first Ashes Test in Cardiff.
England thumped their traditional rivals Australia on Saturday by 169 runs with one day to spare and have taken a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
Heaping praise on Alastair Cook's leadership skills, Bayliss said that Cook's captaincy was top notch, adding that it always helps when the players underneath him are playing well, the BBC reported.
Bayliss insisted that the players have been heading in the right direction over the last series with New Zealand, while maintaining that he was lucky to come in at this time.
England will now take on Australia in the second Test at Lord's on Thursday.
