The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday urged former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh to introspect first rather than levy allegations.

BJP leader Shaina NC told ANI, "I find it quite amusing that you have a senior economist in Dr. Manmohan Singh commenting on this (demonetisation) being a blunder. May be he should comment on the blunders made by his government, whether it was the 2 G scam or the coal scam."

"Here you have a historic movement which is ethical, which is moral and which is to do away with corruption and terrorism at one go. Rather than applauding this endeavour, I think it is unfortunate that he needs to play petty politics at a time when the nation stands in solidarity with the Prime Minister," she added.

Alleging that more than 65 people have lost their lives courtesy the demonetisation drive, Dr. Singh yesterday described the Centre's decision as a case of monumental mismanagement and warned that it would reduce GDP by at least two percent and weaken economic growth.

Dr Singh asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to find a more practical and pragmatic solution to prevent this distress on the public.
