Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Rajnath Singh visited the family of a farmer in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur region on Tuesday who had committed suicide due to heavy debts.
"I will make sure that one of the members of the family gets employment. It is sad, that only after someone got to know that I will be coming here on Tuesday; their family was informed that the government is going to help them," said Singh.
Addressing the media, Singh said the government has violated the rights of farmers.
"We always raise issues regarding the distress of the farmers in our Party. In fact, I had come up with a solution for them through the Farm Income Insurance Scheme. In this, an estimated amount for agricultural produce would have been calculated before the seeds would have been sown, so that there would be a definite amount to be received by the farmers which by the insurance commission," he said.
"The Congress led UPA Government had appreciated it and said that it could be done with a few amendments. But all the talk just went into the bin," Singh added.
Furthermore, Singh claimed that the farmers were not getting the right price for the sugarcane produce.
Singh demanded to know the reason for the delay in announcing the state advisory price (SAP) for sugarcane, which has adversely impacted sugarcane growers
"Why has this government not talked with Sugar mill owners on time and delayed the matter?" he asked.
