The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government in Maharashtra, accusing
the party of being unable to tackle the sudden increase in the number of suicides by Marathwada farmers.
"When the Congress-NCP was in power, there were frequent allegations against us of never paying heed to farmers' plights in Marathwada. The
BJP had made tall claims during the assembly elections. Yet the number of suicides by farmers is increasing daily," NCP leader Tariq Anwar
told ANI.

The Marathwada region has seen a sudden growth of suicides by farmers, with reports stating that the toll amounts to around 300 in 2015 alone.
