The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday lashed out at Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav for encouraging ministers like Gayatri Prajapati in Uttar Pradesh, saying that the saffron party, which is now in power in the state, will not spare goons masquerading around as politicians.
"If BJP would have ruled earlier, Uttar Pradesh would have been a better state to live in, but better late than never. After Gayatri Prajapati getting arrested it's time for many more leaders like him to get arrested as well, because Akhilesh Yadav encouraged all heinous crimes happily," BJP leader Sangeet Som told ANI.
Som further came down heavily on Akhilesh saying that he had tied the hands of the Uttar Pradesh police for the past five years.
"All this while, Akhilesh was covering up on all his crimes but not anymore. Now we will show how active Uttar Pradesh police can get, which they were not in the last five years. It is also unfortunate that even the Congress has not said anything demanding his sacking, as they are ally of Samajwadi Party," said Som.
Former Uttar Pradesh Minister and Samajwadi party leader Gayatri Prasad Prajapati, an accused in a gang rape case, was arrested from his residence in Lucknow yesterday.
Prajapati, who was absconding, was arrested and sent to Alambagh police station for interrogation. He was produced before a court, which sent him to a 14-day judicial custody.
Based on a Supreme Court directive, an FIR was lodged against the minister and six others last month for allegedly gang-raping a woman and attempting to rape her daughter.
