BJP workers led by the party's Delhi unit chief Satish Upadhyay staged a protest against the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP Government on Tuesday over the recent power tariff hike of six percent.
Raising slogans against Kejriwal and the AAP Government, the protestors marched towards ITO.
The police personnel deployed on duty used water cannons to disperse the protestors.
"Today's protest is against the Kejriwal Government which has completely failed to fulfil the promises made to the people of Delhi. It is a government of complete failure. The morality and ideology with which they came to power stands exposed," Upadhyay told ANI.
"He (Arvind Kejriwal) had earlier said that when he will become the Chief Minister, Delhi will not see even a single rupee hike in power tariff. But today, the power tariff has been hiked by six percent. People are not getting electricity. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the government which has 49 percent share in electricity companies," he added.
The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) had last week approved a tariff hike of up to six percent for the three distribution companies operating in the region.
The hike, which came into effect from June 15, will be applicable for the next three quarters.
