The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has refrained from commenting on its ally Telugu Desam Party (TDP) after the latter, although beset with the Union Budget, ultimately chose to remain in alliance.

"I will not comment on this issue purely because TDP is an independent party- they are of course a part of NDA-alliance- and they have already made a statement that they will continue to be part of the alliance," Zafar Islam, BJP spokesperson for Political and Economic Affairs, told ANI.

He maintained that it was TDP's internal matter to remain in alliance with the BJP.

"It is internal to their consumption and I don't think we need to speak because we should respect the 'Coalition Dharma," he added.

BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi also reserved her comments citing the matter was part of political negotiations.

Although the TDP government in Andhra Pradesh was upset regarding the funds allocated for the state in the Union Budget 2018, the party stated on Sunday that there would be no break-up in the alliance.

Andhra Pradesh Minister of State for Science and Technology Y. S. Chowdary said that TDP would instead press the Centre for more funds for the state.
