The Communist Party of India (CPI) on Wednesday blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the continuing deadlock in the Parliament.

CPI leader D. Raja told ANI, "The BJP led government and Prime Minister must be held responsible for the deadlock that's continues in the parliament. It is not that the opposition parties do not want parliament to function. In fact, opposition parties are demanding a meaningful debate on the issue of demonetisation and we want Prime Minister's presence and his intervention in the parliament,"

Raja further said that Prime Minister Modi is the one who is not coming to the parliament to discuss about demonetisation.

"Having said that even now we are asking how come some individuals could get huge amount of new currency notes? It is not in one state, it happened in several states. What was the collaboration between those individuals and the government or the Reserve Bank of India or the banks? We demand for a probe by the joint parliamentary committee and this demand will be strongly raised," he added.

The Parliament will meet today after a four-day break.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has reiterated that the government is ready for debate on the issue asking the Congress to rise above slogans and see advantage of the decision.

Meanwhile, the BJP and the Congress have issued whips to their MPs in both the Houses, asking them to be present in parliament for the next three days.
