BJP slams Azam Khan's insensitive remark on Bulandshahr gang-rape

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today condemned senior Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan's unwarranted remark on the brutal gang-rape in Bulandshahr and demanded former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh to initiate stern action against him.

Taking on Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, Uttar Pradesh BJP chief Keshav Prasad Maurya alleged that only the former takes Khan seriously, adding it is unfortunate that people, who even can't govern a district, are part of the state government.

"I believe that a person, who passes such lewd comments on such a shameful and painful event, can exist only in Akhilesh Yadav's Cabinet. They are now running a government, but the fact of the matter is that they are even not in a position to govern a district," Maurya told ANI.

Condemning his statement, Maurya said, "I expect Mulayam Singh ji to initiate strict action against such ministers as Akhilesh ji will not do anything in this regard."

Maurya further said the Samajwadi Party leader's statement has hurt the people of Uttar Pradesh and let down the state before the world.

In what may come as an embarrassment for the Samajwadi Party Government, Khan earlier hinted at a political conspiracy behind the gang-rape of a mother and her 14-year-old daughter in Bulandshahr.

Khan said that a desperate opposition could stoop to any level to defame and disgrace the government since the state elections are approaching.

A fast track court in Bulandshahr yesterday sent the three accused arrested in connection with the case to 14-day judicial custody.

"Raisuddin, Savesh and Jawar Singh have been sent to 14-day judicial custody. The Sections that have been imposed are 385, 397, 376 D, 342 of the Indian Penal Code and four POCSO rules," Additional District Government Council Navneet Sharma told ANI.

The incident took place earlier on Friday night when a 35-year-old woman and her 14-year-old daughter were allegedly gang-raped by a group of robbers in Bulandshahr district.

The victims were on their way from Noida to Shahjahanpur with the other family members when their vehicle was stopped near a cycle repairing shop in Dostpur village on NH-9, which connects Noida and Bulandshahr.
