BJP trying hard to provoke people against Congress: Pratibha Singh

Reacting to the allegations made on Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) his wife Pratibha Singh on Friday said that this is just the trailer for 2014 elections and that BJP was trying hard to provoke the people against the Congress.

"They want people to believe that we are corrupt; they are trying to provoke people against the Congress. This is false propaganda due to coming elections and this is just a trailer of the 2014 elections," said Singh.

"They have put wrong allegations on us in the past also. We have reached this post by winning the faith of people. Such wrong campaigning will not have any impact," she said.

"I can proudly say that Virbhadra Singh has been there in politics for 52 years, and he has worked with senior leaders like Nehru ji, Indira ji and now Sonia Gandhi ji, but he has never faced any allegations before," she added.

She further said that the BJP needed to prove these allegations first.

"BJP does this before every election, it is their propaganda. Why don't they prove their allegations if they are so sure about it?" said Singh.

The Himachal Pradesh chief minister has been accused by the BJP of indulging in a quid pro quo dealing with a private company. Arun Jaitley had accused Singh of being involved in three cases of corruption, one of which involved the owner of a private company.

He alleged that Virbhadra and his wife Pratibha Singh had received a sum of one crore fifty thousand and two crores respectively from Vanshri Vakamula Chandrashekar, the owner of Venture Energy and Technology Private Limited.

He claimed that the same money was invested in a new company opened by Mr. Chandrashekar called Taarini Enterprise Private Limited, through which, Singh's wife, his son and daughter became its shareholders.

On Thursday, Virbhadra Singh had said," Prove me wrong, and, I will quit politics, forget my post."

Over past one week, both the BJP and the Congress have launched protests against each other over the issue.

On December 31, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha had protested in front of Rahul Gandhi's Tughlak Lane residence, and raised anti- Congress slogans. Some even tried to cross the steel and iron barricades.
