Jamaican sprint star Usain Bolt and the rest of his national team have reportedly been tested for banned drugs just days before the World Championships in wake of six stars from the Caribbean island being caught using performance enhancers.

According to the Mirror, The World Anti-Doping Agency's (WADA) agents came to the Jamaican team's Russian training camp on Tuesday to conduct the checks, blood-testing all 44 members of the squad in a five-hour operation.

The report further said that WADA's actions came in the wake of six Jamaican athletes testing positive for banned substances this year, including multiple Olympic and World gold medallist Veronica Campbell-Brown, World Championship bronze medallist Asafa Powell and Olympic silver medallist Sherone Simpson.

Stating that the sport could be approaching its 'Lance Armstrong moment' in its fight against drugs, Britain's world champion Dai Greene said that although the number of positive tests shows that the sport is coming to grips with the issue, the officials cannot rest until the last cheat is rooted out.

The Welsh star further said that as cycling made big headlines over doping allegations which culminated with Armstrong, similarly athletics seems to be heading the same way, although he hoped that it will come out stronger from the negative media attention it is receiving at the moment like cycling has done.

According to Greene, the doping allegations detract the attention from the performances, adding that it is frustrating for him as an athlete to read about these things in the newspapers.
