Indian-Romanian pair Rohan Bopanna and Florin Mergea defeated Thomas Bellucci and Guillermo Duran in straight sets in the second round of the Wimbledon men's doubles event to advance to the quarter-finals of the tournament.
The ninth seeded duo had to fight hard against the Brazil-Argentine combination, eventually winning 7-5, 7-6, 7-6 in a match that lasted for two hours and 10 minutes, the BBC reported.
Bopanna will today begin his mixed doubles campaign with Spanish partner Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez.
Meanwhile, top seeds Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams advanced to the fourth round after their victories against Bernard Tomic and Heather Watson respectively. Fourth seeded Maria Sharapova and Stanlias Wawrinka also progressed to the quarter-finals.
Serena will face her elder sister Venus Williams in the next round, while Djokovic will take on big server Kevin Anderson of South Africa.
