Legendary cricketer Geoffrey Boycott has said that England selectors should be fair to sacked batsman Kevin Pietersen amidst rumours surrounding his possible team return to the national side.

Earlier, incoming England and Wales Cricket Board chairman Colin Graves had refused to rule out a return for the South African born cricketer, stating that Pietersen would have to play county cricket this summer in order to be eligible for selection to the national side.

Responding to Graves' comment, Pietersen said that he was going to try to work this out for sure.

Boycott said that Kevin needed to get a meeting with Colin Graves as soon as possible, adding that it needed to be put clearly to him that if he did well in county cricket then there would a genuine change of heart, the Mirror reported.

Boycott insisted that if Kevin is going to give up a lucrative IPL contract (to play county cricket) and (England) are still not going to pick him, that's leading him on, claiming that would not be fair.

The South African-born batsman was excluded from the England set-up after the 2013-14 Ashes series, which Australia won 5-0.
