In what appeared to be a 'mini-miracle' on Hudson, a sight seeing helicopter was forced into emergency landing in the Hudson River.
The chopper's engine reportedly conked out in mid-air and none of the five passengers including two children were injured, New York Daily News reports.
FDNY Deputy Fire Chief Thomas McKavanagh said that the pilot Michael Campbell did a terrific job considering he lost his engine power.
According to the report, the chopper was in air for about 12 minutes before the disaster struck and forced the chopper to go down near 79th St. Boat Basin.
Campbell denied any heroism and said that he was merely doing his job adding that the landing could have been smoother.
Onlookers said that Campbell popped out the floaters, inflatable pontoons, on the descent, causing a huge splash.
The tourists said that the landing felt like a 10-meter jump impact.
The incident was reminiscent of 'Miracle on the Hudson' landing in January 2009 when captain Chesley (Sully) Sullenberger crash landed US Airways flight 1549 on the river with 155 people onboard and no one was seriously injured.
Sully had then become a national hero, the report added.
