Dejected and disturbed with the Centre's apathy, the wife of martyr Hawaldar S. Kashmir Singh will be meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi to return the medal bestowed on her husband by President Pranab Mukherjee. The family has threatened to commit suicide in front of the Prime Minister's official residence in the national capital.
The wife and daughter of Havildar S. Kashmir Singh said none of the promises including government jobs, land and petrol pump made by the Centre have not been fulfilled yet.
"My husband's name is S. Kashmir Singh and he had gone to Sri Lanka. He laid down his life for the nation. He only got a medal from the Indian Army. The government has not done anything for us. I have two children, a girl and a boy. The government has not fulfilled its promises. If they don't provide these things even after returning the medal, then my daughter, son and I will commit suicide in front of the residence of the Prime Minister. Things have been lingering for around 20 years," she said.
"The government has not given anything, which they had promised. Our mother has brought us up with so much hardship, we have got nothing. We have come to return the medal to the Prime Minister because we have not got anything. My dad is a martyr. They had promised us that they will provide us a government job, petrol pump, land and a gas agency, but nothing has been fulfilled," added Sukhbinder Kaur, the martyr Hawaldar's daughters.
Havildar Kashmir Singh lost his life during 'Operation Pawan' in Sri Lanka in 1987 .
