Bridgestone India Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of the world's largest tyre and rubber company, Bridgestone Corporation, has launched a nation-wide 'Tyre Safety Check-up Camp' with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to promote safe driving.

Celebrating the 'Road Safety Week 2017', the camp commenced on January 17 and will end on January 27 at 58 TCS facilities in 14 cities across India to educate citizens on the importance of tyre maintenance and road safety.

The 'Road Accidents in India 2015' report issued by the Indian Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, states that almost five lakh accidents have occurred in 2015 killing 1,46,000 citizens with thrice the number injured, representing an increase of 4.6 percent on total number of people killed compared to the previous year. Thirteen states including Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Uttar Pradesh, accounted for more than 80 percent of all road accidents and fatalities. India has the highest motorisation growth rate in the world which has made it imperative to create awareness about safe driving to prevent and control road accidents.

Bridgestone India's 'Tyre Safety Check-up Camp'hopes to draw attention to this serious issue of tyre maintenance which is often unheeded to owing to the lack of effective awareness amongst citizens of India. Poor condition of tyres adversely affects the overall performance of the vehicle including braking distance, handling, safety and fuel consumption. Regular check-ups of correct air pressure, tread depth, tread wear, wheel balancing and alignment by a reputed dealer will helps to reduce road accidents and ensure safe driving.

Ajay Sevekari, Director, Bridgestone India Pvt. Ltd., said, "Bridgestone India has launched this initiative to create awareness about tyre safety and educate consumers on regular tyre maintenance. Road safety is of paramount importance and as a tyre manufacturer; we take adequate measures to promote safe driving in our country. We have plans to take this campaign to other cities in India and raise awareness on tyre and road safety among large segment of consumers."

The camp will be held at TCS campuses across Pune, Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Mumbai, NaviMumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Guwahati, Kochi, Lucknow, Faridabad, Ghaziabad and Trivandrum. At the camp, Bridgestone's technical team will conduct free tyre check-ups and create awareness on appropriate tyre maintenance to all the participants. To promote tyre safety amongst all the participants, Bridgestone India will also provide 3 free tyre check-up coupons, which they can use at any Bridgestone select stores across India during their journey.

Bridgestone India Pvt. Ltd. has been continuously extending its support to promote Road and Tyre safety awareness through various CSR activities to help in reducing road accidents in the country.
