Broadway's leaders have agreed to honor the late Joan Rivers.
The League had previously declined to honor her stating that the TV personality did not meet the criteria for the honor, but after severe backlash, they have agreed to dim the lights on theater marquees, which is the traditional industry honor for celebrities who have performed on Broadway, the CBS News reported.
The league's executive director, Charlotte St. Martin, said that after seeing the outpouring of love and respect for Rivers, the marquees of Broadway theatres in New York will be dimmed in her memory.
The lights would dim at 6:45 p.m. for one minute in honor of the comedy legend, who died recently.
Several celebrities came out in favor of granting the honor to the deceased star, an online petition was launched to protest the League's decision, and several theater owners said they would turn off their marquee lights anyway, which made the League reverse its decision.
