The Border Security Force (BSF) on Monday arrested one militia commander in Odisha's Malkangiri District.
Acting on a specific BSF intelligence, troops of 61 Battalion BSF deployed in the region carried out an operation on Sunday in the general area of Chitrakonda market.
The arrested militant has been identified as Parmeshwar, aged 31, and he was handed over to the Chitrakonda police station for further interrogation. He was allegedly working as aide of top Maoists in Malkangiri.
The Maoists, who are considered to be India's greatest internal security threat, have of late intensified their operations in Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar and some areas of West Bengal.
