Contrasting centuries from Jos Buttler and Joe Root steered England to a stunning 210-run win over New Zealand in the first one-day international (ODI) of the five-match series at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
England registered their highest ever ODI total as they posted a daunting target of 409 after being put in to bat first, thanks to stellar knocks by Root (104) and Buttler (129).
Although the hosts lost opener Jason Roy in the very first ball of the innings, they recovered well by putting twin century partnerships.
While Root and captain Eoin Morgan (50) shared a 121-run partnership for the third wicket, Buttler and Adil Rashid (69) made a crucial 177-run stand for the seventh wicket.
Trent Boult, who picked up four wickets for 55 runs, was the only silver lining for the Black Caps.
The Brendon McCullum-led side never really looked like threatening the hosts' score as they were bundled out for 198, with losing their last six wickets for mere 13 runs, the BBC reported.
While Kane Williamson scored 45, veteran batsman Ross Taylor tried to display some resistance by hitting 57 runs before he was trapped lbw by Steven Finn.
Rashid and Finn remained the pick of the bowlers for the hosts as they scalped four wickets each.
Buttler, who hit the second-fastest ODI hundred by an England batsman off 66 balls, was adjudged the Player of the Match.
