Cabinet apprised of constitution of committee to mark Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's 125th Birth Anniversary

The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been apprised about the constitution of a committee to suggest different programmes to be undertaken by various ministries and states to celebrate the 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. B. R Ambedkar.

The activities and celebrations will aim to spread the thoughts and ideas of Dr. Ambedkar and will be undertaken under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Minister of Urban Development Venkaiah Naidu and Union Minister for Social Justice and

Empowerment Thaawar Chand Gehlot were also present at the meeting, amongst others.

The committee can co-opt other members with the approval of the chairperson.

The Cabinet has also been apprised about 16 major activities being undertaken by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment in order to promote Dr. Ambedkar's ideologies and philosophy.

This year marks the 125th birth anniversary year of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, who is also known as the architect of the Constitution of India. The contribution of Ambedkar in social, political and economic sectors is enormous and he is one of the key founders of modern India.
