Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shaina NC on Thursday called for a parity of law on the part of the Maharashtra Government, and said if it is going to demolish the Campa Cola Society, then it should also demolish other illegal buildings in the city as well.

"We have met with the Chief Minister (Prithviraj Chavan) so many times. Our only appeal is that you have to have a parity of law," said Shaina.

"There are over one lakh buildings in Mumbai which don't have an Occupation Certificates (OC). There are many buildings in the city which are just like Campa Cola. So, if you are going to demolish one, then you should also demolish the rest," she added.

She also said that the government should be more considerate, given that the residents of the Campa Cola Society are willing to pay the penalty and are ready to give some part of their land.

"We need to realize that the municipal commissioner and the chief minister need to sit with the Supreme Court and come up with a solution," she said.

The deadline for the residents to hand over the keys of their illegal flats ends at 5 pm on Thursday but the residents are adamant at their stance.

Brihan Mumbai Corporation had earlier given a May 2 deadline to the residents by which the residents failed to evict their homes. But now, the municipality has again asked the residents to evict their houses by Thursday evening.
