Cate Blanchett has become a strong contender for this year's best actress Oscar, after being appreciated for her performance in 'Blue Jasmine'.
Blanchett, who has been nominated for the best actress Oscar three times and won best supporting actress for 'The Aviator' in 2005, plays the role of fallen New York socialite, Jasmine, in the film, which recalls Tennessee Williams' classic play A Streetcar Named Desire, the BBC reported.
According to a critic from a UK publication, it will need a miraculous performance by someone else to defeat the actress.
