The Central Board of Secondary Education on Tuesday issued a clarification on the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test conducted on 7th May in Kannur.

The board came under fire as media and parents of candidates appearing for the entrance test accused them of insensitivity and trauma.

The board maintained that the protocol of frisking was a necessity following the cheating scandal of All India pre-medical and Dental Test (AIPMT) of 2015. The board blamed the incident on "few overzealous female frisking staff" of the exam center and expressed regret for the inconvenience faced by the candidate.

The CBSE also clarified that the students were well informed about the "frisking guidelines and dress code" in advance, and thus, did not release any statement regarding the cutting of sleeves.

"The board would further sensitize the frisking staff to obviate such incidences in future," stated the CBSE while emphasizing that the 6.42 lakh female candidates registered for NEET 2017 across the country had a smooth examination.
