Ceasefire violations have increased under NDA regime: Azad

Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad on Tuesday claimed that ceasefire violations have increased ever since the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) came to power in 2014.

Azad told ANI, "It's been two and half years the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government is in power and since then only the ceasefire violation has across international border and LoC, especially in the Jammu province has increased whereas, in the last 65 years, ceasefire violation was never this much,"

"There were (surgical) strikes and the whole Congress party strongly supported them. But we had expectations that after the strikes there will be some relief, which we can't see; instead everyday two-three of our soldiers are dying," he added.

Earlier in the day, Pakistani Rangers again resorted to heavy shelling and gunning at Jammu and Kashmir's Nowshera Sector.

No casualty or injuries have been reported so far even as the security forces are aptly matching to their counterparts' firing.

The last rites of slain soldier Naik Rajendra Narayan Tupare of the Maratha Light infantry were performed at Majle-Karve village in Maharashtra's Kolhapur district today.

Tupare was killed in unprovoked firing on Indian Army posts by the Pakistan Rangers along the LoC in the Poonch Sector on Sunday.

Another soldier Gurusevek Singh from Punjab's Taran district also lost his life in the attack.

The village is observing a spontaneous shutdown for the next two days as mark of respect for the dead soldier as also to register their protest against Pakistan for repeatedly violating cease-fire norms established in November 2003.
