Central Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) special court judge Virender Kumar Goyal sent Syed Burhanuddin, a man claiming to be an official of the Prime Minister's office to a five-day CBI custody in connection with an alleged bribery case in Chhattisgarh.

The decision was pronounced after the investigating agency submitted that his custodial interrogation was required to unearth the larger conspiracy.

Burhanuddin, who also goes by the name of O.P. Singh and O.P. Sharma, had demanded Rs 1.5 crore as illegal gratification from B.L. Agrawal, who is in police custody in the same case along with others.

Agarwal, a 1988 batch IAS officer, had allegedly tried to settle two cases that were registered against him in 2010 by paying bribes through hawala operators.

Besides Agarwal, two other accused in the case Bhagan Singh and Ananad Agarwal were sent to CBI's custody on Tuesday.
