In an effort to modernize the police force in Chhattisgarh, Chief Minister Raman Singh on Wednesday said that the government will introduce the use of Information and Technology across all the police stations in the state to make them more active.

The government will spend Rs.200 crore over the next five years to train police officials and make them capable of using social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter.

The state government will also provide smartphones to every constable in the state, so that they maintain connectivity with the people.

"We are planning to make police stations more active. It needs to be more active, we are planning to use Facebook and Twitter. We are roping in the IT department to train the new police officers and make them capable to use computers. The training session is for three months," he said.

Singh further said that special emergency vehicles, manned with police officials, will be placed across police station to shorten the response time.

"In order to shorten the response time of police force, we are planning to place emergency vehicles which will come installed with GPS. The number 112 would be assigned to them. Its aim is to prevent any reported criminal activity and burglary," he said.

Singh said that the government's aim is to make 'smart policing' and 'capable policing' viable to enforce strict law and order in the state.

"The police force would be working hard to reduce the trust deficit between them and the people and enforce fear in the minds of culprits," he said.
