China on Thursday urged both the United States and North Korea to soon initiate talks amongst themselves over the nuclear issue.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said all relevant sides and particularly the US and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPKK) should conduct a dialogue based on a "dual-track approach" to promote denuclearisation and peace mechanisms.

Wang further highlighted the impact of dialogue in easing out the tensions between the DPRK and the Republic of Korea during the PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games.

He also praised the China's suspension-for-suspension program to improve the inter-Korean bilateral relationship.

"China's suspension-for-suspension proposal has proven to be a right prescription for the problem in creating the basic conditions needed for improving inter-Korea relations" Wang said.

He said China will continue to resolve the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula through dialogue and negotiations.

On Tuesday President Donald Trump supported the 'possible progress' on talks with North Korea as the latter agreed to abandon its nuclear program and engage in a dialogue with Washington.

He said, "For the first time in many years, a serious effort is being made by all parties concerned" and that " the U.S. is ready to go hard in either direction!".
