China-India border tension: Rajanth Singh, Sushma to brief Opposition

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will jointly brief an all party meeting tomorrow on the ongoing India-China border standoff.

The invitation has already been sent to all prominent opposition leaders.

Congress leader Anand Sharma said the Center must apprise the opposition as to how the government proposes to address the tension that has been occurring in the Indo-China-Bhutan Doklam area in Sikkim.

"We have been asking the government to take the opposition into confidence as the situation on the Indo-China-Bhutan borer in Doklam has been a matter of grave concern which has national security implications," he said.

"So we hope that the government now apprises the Opposition leadership as to what is the assessment and how it proposes to address the crisis, particular in the light of various agreements that India and China have on confidence building measures and the last agreement of 2012," he added.

Opposition leaders have been criticising the government for the way it has handled the China issue.

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, thorugh his Twitter handle, questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "silence" on China.

The tensions between China and India have been escalating for the past three weeks over the borer standoff at the Doklam area. The rift arouse after Chinese Army's construction party attempted to build a road near the area.

Doklam region, called in Bhutan, is known as as Dok La in India which China claims, Donglang region, as its part.
