The Foreign Secretary of India, Vijay Gokhale, met with the Vice Foreign Minister of China, Kong Xuanyou, on Tuesday to review the progress made in bilateral relations since the high-level Wuhan Summit, between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping, was held in April this year.
"Taking guidance from Wuhan Summit. Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale & China Vice Foreign Minister Kong Xuanyou held consultations in Delhi. Reviewed progress made in bilateral relations since Informal Summit between PM @narendramodi & President Xi Jinping," the spokesman of the Ministry of External Affairs, Raveesh Kumar, tweeted.
They further discussed the agenda for bilateral engagement in the coming months, while exchanging views on regional and international issues of common interest during the consultations held in Delhi on December 4.
Prime Minister Modi had visited Wuhan in April this year to hold a two-day informal summit with President Xi, where one-on-one talks were held between the leaders. Both the leaders had underscored the importance of strengthening bilateral relations between India and China.
Prime Minister Modi had also emphasised on the concept of 'Panchsheel' - shared vision, strong relationship, shared resolve, better communication and shared thought process - through which he envisioned the bolstering of ties between the two nations.
President Xi had voiced his support for 'Panchsheel' and highlighted China's readiness in cooperating and working with India through the five principles.
Recently, Prime Minister Modi and President Xi met on the sidelines of the G-20 summit in Argentina, along with participating in the BRICS Leaders Informal Summit at the Alvear Palace Hotel and holding the RIC (Russia-India-China) Informal summit.
