China will build its own mangrove museum in Shenzhen, the provincial forestry authority announced on Monday.
It will be jointly built by the State Forestry Administration and the municipal government of Shenzhen. The museum is expected to be ready by next year, reported Xinhua.
It will be a world-class mangrove education and research centre and will showcase China's achievements in protecting and studying the mangrove plants. More than two million visitors are expected to visit the museum.
Along with the display of mangrove species from around the world, the museum will also have a laboratory and dedicated rooms for conducting lectures and international forums.
Mangroves are salt-tolerant trees found in coastal and marshy areas. They are found mostly in tropical and subtropical tidal areas.
Sri Lanka opened its own first mangrove museum last year, also dedicated to the protection and display of various mangrove trees.
