Christians in Thiruvananthapuram observed Palm Sunday or Oshana festival on Sunday to commemorate the beginning of holy week, ahead of Easter.
Hundreds of devotees walked solemnly in a procession to St. Joseph's Metropolitan Cathedral to offer prayers on the occasion.
"Oshana commemorates the entry of Christ as king into Jerusalem. And, he is the king of simplicity, to show his simplicity, his chariot was a symbol house. Not a house, but a symbol.... His followers instead of waving flags, held holy leaves," said a devotee, Dominic.
A large number of devotees took out the procession holding palm fronds blessed by the priest to honour the day.
