The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) will be honouring Muzaffarnagar's Garima Gupta, a student of Class 7, whose poetry on India-Africa relationship was mentioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the 13th edition of his radio programme 'Mann Ki Baat' on Sunday.

Garima had written the poetry for a competition on India-Africa Relationship. The Prime Minister found the poetry very interesting and talked about it in his radio programme.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will honour Garima on October 27.

Garima said, "I am a big fan of Prime Minister Modi, and I listen to Mann ki Baat programme along with my aunt regularly. Today, when I was listening to Mann ki Baat, the Prime Minister suddenly took my name, saying that he liked my poem. I was taken aback. I immediately informed my family members about it."

"My relatives and friends are congratulating me since the Prime Minister made the announcement," she said.

"On October 27, Swaraj will hand over to me a prize comprising Rs 55,000, as my poem was selected first in the competition," she added.

Garima's mother Tripti Gupta, who is overwhelmed by the achievement of her daughter, said, "We are very happy by the news. My daughter writes poems and stories regularly. His grandfather was a geography teacher, so these things are in her blood.
