Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday wrote letters to both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Prakash Javadekar in which he expressed his concern over students from his state facing discrimination while applying for admission to Delhi University (DU).

The Chief Minister Office of Kerala stated that, "Discriminating against languages in the Eighth Schedule is a violation of the Article 29(2) of our Constitution. It will go a long way in enriching our diverse languages, cultures and it will also install a sense of belonging among students all over India. So concern about discrimination being faced by students applying for admissions in Delhi University is an important fact that needs to be looked into".

Earlier in the week, the Delhi University released its fifth and final cut-off list as per schedule where almost 94 percent of seats having been filled.

Out of the approximately 50,000 seats that are available for merit-based undergraduate courses, admissions to almost 47,000 seats were confirmed by the end.
