The 'Wonderful life' singer Colin Vearncombe, who was widely known as Black, has passed away at the age of 53.

Vearncombe, who inflicted a serious head injury following a car accident earlier this month, was placed in an induced coma and remained in a serious condition for over a week, the Independent reports.

His death announcement was made on his Facebook page, which read as, "Colin Vearncombe, 26/5/1962 - 26/1/2016, You'll never walk alone. A full statement will follow shortly."

Shortly after this, his fans flooded the social media with their tributes.

One of the users wrote, "RIP #ColinVearncombe. #Black and I went all the way back. Such a talent and much too short of a #wonderfullife."

Another tweeted, "All the great music is drifting up to heaven. That's some band of wonderful God is assembling. RIP Colin Vearncombe."

Born in Liverpool, the 'Paradise' hit-maker had his first gig on the New Year's Day, 1982 and his debut single 'Human Features' was released the same year.

The singer had released 14 albums over the course of his life. His latest, 'Blind Faith,' was released in 2015.
