Communist leader Atual Anjan against reported BJP move to use Article 356 to replace Governors

Communist Party of India (CPI) leader, Atul Anjan on Tuesday claimed that if the BJP-led NDA Government's move to replace six Governors becomes successful then, the next step of the Union Government would be to dismiss those state Government's using Article 356.

"Constitutional posts which are appointed by the President, were dismissed by the Janata Party Government, and Jan Sangh leaders like Nanaji Deshmukh had removed all Congress governments in the States. Now there is a similar debate. They are calling for removal of Governors which will be a violation of the President's order. If the Modi is successful in removing the Governors selectively, then the next step would to be impose dismiss those state Governments using Article 356," Anjan said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is reportedly mulling over an idea of removing atleast six Governors following the footsteps set by the UPA which, after coming to power in 2004, got rid of BJP appointees in Raj Bhavans, including Vishnukant Shastri (UP), Kailashpati Mishra (Gujarat), Babu Parmananad (Haryana) and Kedarnath Sahni (Goa).

Those Governors who are in the line to be possibly eased out are from states like Kerala, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra , Tripura and even West Bengal.
