'Confident' De Villiers believes Proteas will 'go all the way' to WC glory post quarterfinal win over Lanka

South Africa captain AB de Villiers has said that he is quietly confident of going all the way to the World Cup glory, after his side thrashed Sri Lanka by nine wickets in their quarterfinal tie at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Wednesday to record their first ever win in the knockout stages of cricket's pinnacle tournament.

South African bowlers bowled out Sri Lanka for a paltry 133 runs in just 37.2 overs, with all-rounder JP Duminy claiming a hat trick of wickets and Imran Tahir, who was named Man of the Match, scalping four crucial wickets.

South Africa then chased down the 134-run target in just 18 overs for the loss of one wicket, thanks to Quinton de Kock's unbeaten knock of 78 runs. Opener Hashim Amla was the only wicket to fall for South Africa on his individual 16 runs as De Kock and Faf du Plessis (21 not out) guided the team to victory.

De Villiers said that he didn't have to say much, adding that his side was very motivated for this game. He insisted that the guys were in a really good space and they rocked up mentally.

The skipper pointed out that he was going to bat first but added that he would have backed the batters to do a good job out there. He said that it was incredible the job the bowlers did up front, claiming that De Kock has been going through a tough time, the coaches kept backing him, for him to pull it off with a really special knock and a couple of catches.

De Villiers also said that the spinners came in at a crucial stage, adding that they kept them back until the 14-15th over, so for the two of them to come on against a subcontinental team at a crucial stage was really impressive.

De Villiers said that he is quietly confident, adding that he likes to believe in big things. He insisted that he truly believes that they are going to go all the way and added that for now they are just going to enjoy a beer and think about what's to come.
