Cong eroded itself by depending upon dynastic succession: Jitendra Singh

Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office Jitendra Singh on Tuesday said the nation would have to rise up and rethink whether the Congress is a party which could ever in future be handed over the reins of power and governance without risking the sovereignty of Indian republic.

His response came after Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi came out in support of Gurmehar Kaur, a Delhi University student and daughter of a Kargil martyr saying, "Against tyranny of fear we stand with our students. For every voice raised in anger, intolerance and ignorance there'll be a Gurmehar."

"I think Mr. Rahul Gandhi owes it to the nation to clarify whether he, his party leadership stand by the statements issued by some of his colleagues which tends to instigate anti-India activism and if he does so then I think the nation would have to rise up and rethink whether indeed this is a party which could ever in future be handed over the reins of power and governance without risking the sovereignty of Indian republic," he told ANI.

Further slamming the grand old party, Singh said the Congress Party is in a state of confusion after being rattled by series of electoral reverses in the last few months.

"Having being resorted to walls they are speaking the language of the fringe elements but this indeed would hasten the process of extinction of this party which has largely eroded itself by depending upon dynastic succession as a result of which it is trapped under serious crisis of leadership," he added.

Singh yesterday said the country would not allow premium on anti-India activism and there is a need for drawing a bottom line to check such activities

He was responding to questions regarding ongoing row over the clashes between students unions -- Left-affiliated AISA and the RSS-backed ABVP -- in Delhi University's North Campus.

"Message should go out loud and clear that India will not allow premium on anti-India activism. Even the most liberated democracies of the world including the US and UK have drawn bottom line for it," he added.

Gandhi yesterday expressed his complete support towards Gurmehar, who has allegedly received rape threats over her social media campaign in support of students of the Delhi University following unrest in Ramjas College.

"Against the tyranny of fear we stand with our students. For every voice raised in anger, intolerance and ignorance there will be a Gurmehar Kaur," tweeted Gandhi.

Gandhi's comments come in the wake of the Centre accusing the Opposition, especially the Congress, of giving a political tinge to the developments over the Ramjas College clash.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Venkaiah Naidu had blamed the Congress for politicising the issue.

"I'm surprised about the efforts made by the Congress and the Left to give a different colour to the issues that are happening in a few universities, saying that it is an assault on freedom of expression. Certain misguided and misleading sections are trying to mislead the young population and create social tensions and hurt sentiments of the Indian people," Naidu said.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has written to the Delhi Police seeking swift action against the miscreants who have harassed Gurmehar.
