The Congress party on Sunday condoled the demise of Outlook India Editor -in-Chief Vinod Mehta and said that the latter pioneered a journalistic stream that stood for liberal and progressive values.
"Congress President Sonia Gandhi has expressed shock and deep anguish at the passing away of Vinod Mehta. Mehta stood for and pioneered a journalistic stream that stood for liberal-progressive values and anchored itself in human conscience. Mehta will be missed forever by his friends and journalistic fraternity, as indeed by his millions of readers," said a statement by the Congress.
Earlier in the day, acclaimed journalist and Editorial Chairman of Outlook India magazine, Vinod Mehta passed away.
According to reports, Mehta was admitted in AIIMS in Delhi.
He was one of the most influential editors and had launched a number of successful publications such as the Sunday Observer, Indian Post, The Independent and The Pioneer (Delhi edition).
