Stating that his party was in a much better position than the Congress to win the upcoming Assembly polls, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Majid Memon today asked the Congress party to let go of its strict stance on the issue of sharing seats.
Memon told ANI, "The way Prithviraj Chavan said that if NCP keeps a strict stance over the seat issue then I would remind the Congress to do the same thing, unless they want the alliance to break. We should look into the benefit of the alliance and form a secular government in the state."
Memon, however, assured that both the parties are trying their best to keep the alliance intact and it wasn't necessary that they would fall apart.
Majid had earlier told ANI that NCP is the most loyal and consistent partner of UPA right from inception. And that is why he thought it was time for Congress to respect the sentiments of NCP and also pay heed to NCP's legitimate demands regarding seats.
Congress leader Manish Tewari had also said Tuesday that his party's alliance with the Nationalist Congress Party was not falling apart and stressed that a tussle about the number of seats to be contested happens during every election.
The two UPA allies have been locked in a tussle over the seats to be contested by each party in the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections, with NCP demanding at least 144 out of the 288 seats to be contested.
