Taking potshots at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for dubbing Rahul Gandhi's presence at the Kisan Rally as his 're-launch', the Congress Party on Sunday said the farmers are continuously being 'harassed' by the government and added that the government's Land Acquisition Bill has become a 'casualty'.
Congress spokesperson, P.C. Chacko rubbished Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad's remark that the opposition was using the Kisan Rally platform to re-launch Rahul Gandhi.
"There is no launching or re-launching of Rahul Gandhi, he has been part of the party since 10 years. Rahul Gandhi came in the natural way... He was with the youth, students and farmers since the last decade... We got the Bill because of him... There is no point in what Ravi Shankar Prasad has said," he said.
Chacko claimed that the Land Acquisition Bill 2013, which was passed by the former UPA regime, is considered the Magna Carta of the farmers.
" Land Acquisition Bill has become a casualty because of the BJP. And there, we have openly said that this government is anti-farmer. For farmers, land is their right, their asset. Land should not be taken without their consent," said Chacko.
"Whatever the BJP Government is trying to make allegations against, the fact remains that the Modi government is anti-farmer, anti-poor and the Congress has declared that we will be with the poor until their grievances are resolved," he added.
