Congress welcomes SC's order to CBI chief Sinha on 2G scam probe

The Congress party on Thursday welcomed the Supreme Court's direction of asking the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) director Ranjit Sinha to recuse himself from overseeing the 2G scam case probe.

"With regard to Supreme Court's directive, of course it is welcome. If the Supreme Court feels that the CBI director may not be acting independently then I think it is a welcome step," Congress party

spokesperson Sandeep Dikshit told ANI.

Terming the apex court's decision as 'confusing', Dikshit further said, "If you believe that the CBI director was not performing adequately, then how can you trust him with other cases. In case you

find that it is an administrative issue then this kind of comment is not warranted, it is a very confusing signal from the Supreme Court."

Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Yogendra Yadav has also welcomed the apex court's decision and called for Sinha's resignation.

"It is a welcome step by the Supreme Court, he (Ranjit Sinha) must resign from his post," Yadav said.

The Supreme Court earlier in the day had asked the CBI director Ranjit Sinha to exclude himself from overseeing the 2G scam case probe, adding that the second senior-most officer in the investigating team

case will take over the case.

On Wednesday, the CBI director had reportedly told the apex court that DIG-rank CBI officer Santosh Rastogi was a mole who passed on certain file notings and documents to the NGO Centre for Public

Interest Litigation on the basis of which baseless and false case was filed against him.

Earlier, advocate Prashant Bhushan and the NGO, had filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against Sinha, seeking his removal for allegedly compromising investigations into the 2G and coal block

cases.

To support his allegation Bhushan had presented to the court a visitor's logbook of Sinha's official residence as evidence and claimed that Sinha used to meet people associated with the scams

during the investigation of the same.
