Cops fear radical Lal Masjid activists regrouping to carry out terror activities in Pak

The police in Pakistan's federal capital, Islamabad, are on the look-out for ex-Ghazi Force activists affiliated with Lal Masjid amid intelligence reports that the former seminary students are contacting each other in an attempt to reactivate the group.

According to Dawn News, officials in the police told Dawn on the condition of anonymity that Ghazi Force was formed by the former students of Lal Masjid to avenge the killing of Abdul Rashid Ghazi and others during the Operation Silence in July 2007.

The group was dismantled after the 2007 military operation on the mosque.

The group is believed to have orchestrated the attacks on the Special Branch Islamabad on March 23, 2009; the Frontier Constabulary barracks on April 4, 2009; Rescue-15 on June 6, 2009, and the World Food Programme office on October 5, 2009.

The force also planned to strike at Adiala Jail and the UN office in Islamabad and was involved in six terrorism attacks in Swat, Buner and Orakzai Agency, the report added.
