With the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) set to form the government in the Left bastion, Tripura; Chhattisgarh Raman Singh on Saturday said that the country is walking towards Congress-free India.
"The biggest part of the Tripura win is that BJP won with more than 50 percent votes. We were successful in Nagaland as well. All this shows that people of the country want a Congress- Mukt Bharat," Singh said while addressing the media here.
He added that people are continuously giving their answers to Congress through these election results.
"This is a historical win and is showing the increasing support BJP is getting in North-East. In the past three years BJP has won in about 14 states, in five states there is NDA-led BJP government. The number was earlier 19 but has increased to 21," said Singh.
Singh also seemed confident that BJP would win in Karnataka as well.
At the time of filing the report, the latest trends showed the BJP-Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT) alliance leading in 43 seats in the 60-member Assembly.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has won from both Ampati and Songsak constituencies, in Assembly elections.
Results for 18 assembly seats in the state are out, and the Congress Party has won nine seats till now, including the two won by the chief minister.
As per the latest trends, Congress is on 21 seats.
BJP is showing a decent performance as it along with its allies Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) is leading in Nagaland, with 31 seats, as per the latest reports.
