'Crushed' Mourinho 'broke into sobs' after being overlooked for Man U job, claims book

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho had supposedly broken down in tears after he learned that he had been overlooked in favour of former Everton boss David Moyes to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, according to a book.

In 'Prepare To Lose - The Mourinho Era' written by journalist Diego Torres, the Chelsea manager originally believed he was the hot favourite to become the new United chief.

According to the Daily Express, Torres claimed in his book that Mourinho 'felt betrayed' after learning that Moyes and not the then Real Madrid boss had been chosen by the outgoing Ferguson to succeed him, adding that he was crushed as he thought that Ferguson was, besides being his ally, also his friend and godfather.

Torres further said that Mourinho also thought that he and Ferguson were tied by a relationship of genuine trust and that his fabulous collection of titles constituted an endorsement unreachable to any other contenders.

Torres maintained that Mourinho was reduced to tears after contacting his representatives, although the current Chelsea manager's aides have denied the claims of Torres, who followed Mourinho closely during his time at Real Madrid.
