Cuban president throws weight behind NSA whistleblower

Cuban president Raul Castro has expressed his support for NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden and backed the Latin American nations which have shown willingness to grant Snowden asylum in their country.

According to the Fox News, Castro said that he supports Venezuela and other nations who have offered to grant asylum to those prosecuted for their ideals or their struggles for democratic rights.

The report said that Castro voiced his support for Bolivian President Evo Morales, whose aircraft was recently diverted to Austria amidst speculation of Snowden being on the plane.

Criticizing the move he said that said that it shows how today the powerful think they can violate international law, endanger the sovereignty of states and trample the rights of citizens.

Castro further said that Cuba was aware of the kind of secretive NSA programs Snowden has revealed and Cuba being a longtime enemy of Washington, it has been 'one of the most harassed and spied-upon nations on the planet.', the report added.
